Charlie Kuthe - Senior Pastor

Charlie Kuthe – Senior Pastor

Pastor Charles Kuthe and his wife Erin were married on April 24, 1999 in Scottsdale, Arizona, approximately three years after meeting while both were attending the University of Arizona.  Shortly after their marriage they moved to the Boston area where Charles pursued a Master of Divinity degree at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, which he completed in May 2002.  During this time, Erin continued her career as a high school English and French teacher at a local school.  At the end of his final year at seminary, Charles was awarded the Parish-Pulpit Scholarship for excellence in preaching, which provided him the opportunity and the funds to live abroad and study preaching for one year.  This took the Kuthes to Edinburgh, Scotland where Charles earned his Master of Theology in Christian Ethics and Practical Theology from the University of Edinburgh, completed in December of 2003.  His dissertation is in the area of evangelistic expository preaching.  During their year in Scotland Erin was able to continue teaching, this time in a cross-cultural setting.

Shortly after their return to the United States, Charles and Erin accepted the call to pastor at Georgia Plain Baptist Church and began ministering there in April 2004.  Since that time they have been richly blessed with two beautiful daughters – Naomi Kathleen {born March 9, 2005} and Hannah Audrey {born June 8, 2007}.  Charles is in the final stages of completing a Doctor of Ministry program at Denver Seminary, which he hopes to complete in 2016.

Philippians 4:6-7 ~ “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Life verse:

Galatians 2:20 – I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I will live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me.

Background: First, let me say I am humbled to be asked to serve as an elder; it would be an honor to do so. I have been asked in the past, but the timing just didn’t seem right . . . . Or perhaps it was me not feeling mature enough. Well, I’m ready now.  . . . A little dose of cancer will do that to you. More about that later. I grew up attending the Lutheran church with my family, and came to know the Lord during that time. It wasn’t until  high school that I took a more serious interest in learning more about what that meant, so I took an adult Bible study class at our little Lutheran church in the country . . . There was only 1 other student but we both faithfully attended . . . .  A long haired high school kid and an old German farmer. . . It was the quietest Bible study ever.

Service:  Our family has been attending Park Springs since 1987 and we have raised our family here.

I started serving in the nursery, then the 2 year old class, then filled a temporary vacancy as a 3rd grade Sunday School  teacher. “Temporary” has passed the 20 year mark . . .  That’s a lot of wonderful years, wonderful kids, lots of popsicle stick Bible buildings, and of course lots of Bible boat and chariot races. A few years ago I did a 6-year stint as a Deacon. I guess the fact that the “towering pine trees” I promised (the little ones by the Reese building doors) are still only 5 feet tall took me out of the running for a return to that position.

Floods: During a couple of very stressful times of life I have felt the stillness and the peace of the Holy Spirit wash over me like a flood and felt assured that everything was gonna be all right. . . And so it has been. Another fun flood story involved Deb’s birthday flood in 2010. A tropical storm dropped 7 inches of rain on our neighborhood and all the houses were flooded with 5 feet of swirling, muddy water. Just hours later we were flooded by Park Springs volunteers helping us sort through the mess. We had so many helpers we sent teams out into the neighborhood to help other families – to this day we know those people felt Gods presence thru Park Spring folks slogging thru the muck of life side by side with them. Speaking of muck, I was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer. Since that shocker our family has once again been flooded by love from the Park Springs family. Hugs, cards, calls, and mostly prayers have sustained Deb and me and continues to do so. You guys are awesome. It will be awesome to serve you as an elder.

A few favorite bible verses:

Psalm 19 – The heavens declare the glory of God, the skies proclaim the work of his hands . . . let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing in your sight.

Phil 4:8 – Whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these thing.

I was born in Ohio and lived in Australia and Kentucky before moving to Texas in 1984 after graduating with an engineering degree from the University of Kentucky. I received Christ as savior in 1976 while attending a Southern Baptist church and became active in my youth group. I was a lukewarm Christian until I decided to make Jesus lord of my life in 1982 while attending a Navigators retreat. I profited from the discipleship emphasis of the Navigator ministry for the next few years and gained a solid Biblical foundation for the years ahead. Rebecca and I have been married for 29 years and have four grown children and three grandchildren. We have been attending PSBC for 18 years and have been active in several ministries including community group leadership; I previously served as a deacon and an elder. I have worked for the electrical group of Eaton Corporation for the past 25 years in various roles related to technical sales and training. I would count it both a blessing and an honor to serve PSBC as an elder.

First I want to say how humbled I am by the opportunity to be considered as an elder at Park Springs Bible Church. I do not take this possibility lightly and was reminded of Isaiah’s words in Isaiah 6 where he declared being a man of unclean lips, yet when God touched his lip,s Isaiah’s guilt was removed and he was willing to be sent and serve the Lord!

I was born in Oostburg, Wisconsin into a Christian family and church home that provided great teaching and spiritual nurturing. Through my early years of having many wonderful Sunday School and catechism teachers invest into my life, I grew to love the Lord and gained a better understanding of God. At age sixteen on a snowy December evening after Wednesday night catechism class, I placed my faith and trust in Jesus for the forgiveness of my sins. I became acutely aware of what Jesus did on my behalf giving birth to my personal faith and accountability to live for Jesus from then on. Since that time I’ve learned that God continues to love me and shower His grace upon me in the mountaintops and valleys of life. I always rest in our family verses, Proverbs 3:5-6, and remember that God’s purpose is to mold me and make me into a vessel (clay pot) that He uses to reconcile others to Himself, in spite of my short comings and failures.

My wife Debi and I have been blessed with five wonderful children and 14, in October 2016, grandchildren. Since God’s call in 1989 into full-time missions, we have served in support of the Bible Translation work in DR Congo and Kenya, Africa, and other parts of the world. We now live in Grand Prairie, TX, and work for Wycliffe, serving in Human Resources (Dave) and Desktop Publishing (Debi). I have been assisting with the placement of new Wycliffe members into the many open positions around the world. We have truly been blessed to be part of God’s family, especially at Park Springs, and enjoy the fellowship of His people all over the world.
